A golden bull standing among dark stones under an indigo night sky, a bright star glowing as its eye, golden light across deep shadow, painterly celestial art

The client told me nothing was wrong, and on paper she was right. Twelve years at the same veterinary clinic. A house with no mortgage left on it. A sister who called every Sunday. She listed her life the way people list evidence, then stopped and looked at the floor.

I asked what she wanted.

She said she did not know. She had not asked herself that question in years, because everything she had was something she had chosen.

Taurus is a fixed earth sign that maps a psyche's relationship to what is already here: the body, the appetites, resources, and the private sense of what a person is worth. It is the second sign of the zodiac, ruled by Venus, covering roughly April 20 to May 20 Taurus.

The Bull That Came Bearing Garlands

Heaven draws this sign as a bull. The Greek story behind it is a kidnapping that looked like a kindness. Zeus noticed Europa, daughter of Agenor, king of Tyre, and turned himself into a white bull to get close to her Europa. The animal was calm. He ate flowers from her hand and let her and her friends hang garlands on his horns. When she climbed onto his back, he walked into the sea and swam her to Crete, where she bore Minos and Rhadamanthys.

The bull in that story is never frightening, which is the part worth sitting with. Nobody gets persuaded by force. The capture runs through warmth and appetite, and Europa takes the ride because the animal offering it looks like the safest thing in the field. I have watched the same pattern in Taurus charts for years. A life gets built out of choices that all felt gentle at the time, and one day the person looks up and cannot find the door.

The constellation keeps the bull's head. Aldebaran is the eye, an orange giant 65 light-years away at magnitude 0.85, and its name comes from the Arabic for the follower, because it trails the Pleiades across the sky Aldebaran. The Hyades cluster forms the V of the face. The Pleiades sit on the shoulder. The Nebra sky disc, buried in Germany around 1600 BCE, carries them in gold Nebra sky disc. Chinese astronomers recorded a star exploding here on July 4, 1054, and the wreck is now the Crab Nebula, the first entry in Messier's catalog in 1758 Crab Nebula.

Venus, and the House of What You Own

Venus rules this sign and Libra as well, which splits her work in two. Libra weighs a person's worth in a room full of other people. Taurus locates worth in the body, in the senses, in the thing you can put your hand on. Venus runs a 584-day cycle against the Sun and turns retrograde every eighteen months for about six weeks, and those are the stretches when people renegotiate what they value Venus.

Astrology hands Taurus the second house: earned money, possessions, appetite, and self-esteem House. Every client who has said I know what I am worth was working in this house, including the ones who said it while being underpaid.

Jung bought a patch of land at Bollingen, on Lake Zurich, in 1922, and built a round stone tower there with his own hands in 1923, two months after his mother died. He kept adding to it for twelve years, and gave his reason in his memoir. He needed a representation in stone of his inner life, a confession of faith in stone Bollingen Tower.

The assignment of this sign sits right there. A fixed earth psyche builds the outer thing first, because the outer thing can be checked and held. What the house cannot do is tell you whether you want to live in it.

The Standstill

Jung described the confrontation with the shadow as producing at first a dead balance, a standstill that hampers moral decisions, the stage the alchemists called nigredo. He added that every descent is followed by an ascent Shadow.

Taurus produces one of the cleanest versions of that standstill, because nothing looks wrong from outside. The job is fine. The relationship is fine. Money is not the problem. Inside, the appetite has gone quiet, and the person cannot say when. I have heard clients describe years of this, and the sentence that arrives is usually some form of I would rather keep what I have than find out.

Fixed earth does not move on its own. It moves when something pushes, and the push this sign avoids is the small one: the honest request, the price named out loud. The refusal gets stored in the body. The neck, mostly. Clients point there instead of using words, and I have learned to wait.

The shadow here wears two faces that look opposite. One hoards: money, objects, attention, the same dinner every Friday. The other refuses to commit to anything long enough to lose it. I have seen both in a single chart, one after the other, usually inside a decade.

Scorpio, the Other Shore

Every sign faces an opposite, and Taurus faces Scorpio across the second and eighth houses. The second is mine, the thing I earned. The eighth is ours, the shared account, the body a relationship has a claim on, the debt that arrives with someone else's name on it. Scorpio asks what a person will hand over when handing over is the price.

A Taurus who cannot stand Scorpio usually cannot stand one specific moment. It is the afternoon somebody else decides how the money gets spent, or the night the answer to a question is I need you. Clients who struggle here never hand over the keys to anything, and after a few years of that a gift arrives with a price on it.

What the Sky Is Doing

Pluto entered Aquarius in 2024 and stays until 2043, in your tenth house of career and public standing. Two years in, the question is who you are once the title changes.

Jupiter moved into Leo in July 2026 and remains until June 2027, in the fourth house of home, family, and the private ground. The year's luck is indoors, in the rooms nobody outside your life sees.

Saturn has been in Aries since May 2025 and stays until 2028, retrograde through this autumn, in the twelfth house of rest, retreat, and everything you have been carrying unnamed. Neptune sits in the same house and blurs what Saturn fences, so the season keeps asking how much of the load was ever yours. Venus, your ruler, works through Scorpio all month. Your planet sits in the seventh house, the house of other people. Uranus went retrograde in Gemini on September 10, in the second house of income and self-worth, and it has been unsettling the numbers since 2025. Libra season opens on September 22, 2026, with Mercury already there, both in the sixth house of daily work and health. The Full Moon on September 26, 2026 falls in Aries, in the twelfth house, in the same room as Saturn, and it closes something you have not named yet.

The light is in the fourth house of home. The pressure sits in the second. What arrives from the twelfth is an instruction to put something down.

Working With It

First, price the habit in time rather than money. Pick one thing you keep because it is comfortable, and count the hours a week it costs you. Comfort is a real good with a real invoice, and most people have never read theirs.

Second, do one thing badly every week. Cook the dish you have not made. Twenty minutes of movement that leaves you breathing hard. Fixed earth does not need a leap. It needs one small motion a week, before the floor hardens.

Third, say the number out loud, to a person who can hear it. What you need in sleep, in money, in help. Taurus charts carry a split. The same person can tell you to the dollar what a car is worth and cannot say what a week of rest costs.

What the Client Found

She asked her manager for Fridays. Three weeks of rehearsal, nine seconds of delivery, and he said yes before she finished the sentence.

She kept the house. She repainted the kitchen green, a color her ex would have hated, and bought a coat in February. In our last session she told me she still did not know what she wanted, which no longer frightened her. She had checked, and it was not nothing.

The clinic still has her. The sister still calls on Sunday.
